  • The Pembury Loop

    • Reuse
    Info

The Pembury Loop is Hackney’s own community re-use hub. Working with Peabody who manage the Pembury estate, we have set up this re-use hub to collect, repair, restore and sell unique, lovingly restored and reasonably priced furniture. We also offer training, employment and volunteering opportunities for residents in furniture restoration.

At The Loop, we work to turn waste into a force for good. Rather than leave unwanted furniture and appliances outside to be collected as waste and likely to end up in landfill sites, local residents can donate their items to The Loop. We offer free doorstep collection for residents, then repair, restore or upcycle them in our workshop, before selling them on at affordable prices. All the money raised from sales is reinvested in the workshop and in furniture restoration training for residents.

The Pembury Loop is located in large undercover carpark which was redundant for years prior to us reclaiming it. It’s home to our workshop and showroom and a 5 minutes walk from  Hackney Downs and Hackney Central stations. In our showroom you’ll find unique, lovingly restored and reasonably priced furniture.

  • Wilton Music Mall

    • Reuse
    Info

Wilton Music Mall grew out of 30 years collecting and obsessing over Hi Fi (mainly British, and not too expensive, but well designed) and too may friends telling us how great their iPod dock sounded, or playing music through their TV. A half good stereo is a far more lovely thing, and when you get the right system (for maybe a few hundred pounds) for your room (the interaction is important) the effect can be entrancing.

We love vinyl but we don’t pretend that most vinyl setups sound better than an iPhone: they don’t. An iPhone is a pretty good front end. As is a DVD player, but just don’t mention the words ‘home cinema’ in here: let’s focus on getting the stereo right and we swear you won’t want Dolby surround and a bunch of subwoofers!

At the moment it’s just a one man operation, mainly on Saturdays. Almost everything in the room is a clean, working, usually serviced example, and the prices reflect that. Buying on ebay is fine (and we do get some things from there) but amps, speakers and record players can all have their problems. We have bought 4 unworking Sony PS-F9 record players in a row from ebay, all described as working fine… we’re rebuilding them, but we’ll end up with two. If you want to go that way please do bring us the repairs when they are needed! We’re happy to spend some time putting a system together for you that sounds sweet, looks great and holds its value (most of our things are established hi fi greats and easy to resell). And if something does go wrong later we can arrange repairs by the proper person at a reasonable price.
