EPQ in Architecture

Building Ways collaborated with the London School of Architecture to launch the first dedicated Extended Project Qualification in architecture in the UK. By providing core skills in architecture and introducing students to key ideas of the circular economy, the EPQ will significantly improve access to the profession as well as provide an understanding of the built environment more broadly.

The EPQ has been launched with schools in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest, with future plans to expand nationally. The programme has partnered with Drawing Matter to introduce students to the possibilities of architectural drawing. The curriculum developed by the LSA is based on Building Ways’ Nine Key Principles of Sustainable Design.

The programme has a hands-on, collaborative approach to design and will encourage students to engage with the processes that shape and reshape buildings. Students will complete the programme with a developed understanding of where materials come from and where they go. The first student intake began in Autumn 2023.

Seed funding was generously provided by the Foundation for Future London with subsequent support from the Rothschild Foundation.
